In March 1989 a few persons fond of singing began to practise together and created the mixed
choir "Lapurtarrak" in Ustaritz, the ancient capital of Lapurdi, one of the three provinces of
French Basqueland.
With members from Ustaritz and different villages nearby, the choir
aims to become the ambassador of the province of Lapurdi and hence make the Basque traditions
more widely known through the vibrating melodies and captivating words of the songs evoking
love in general and love of Basqueland in particular.
This ensemble of about 40 members
has been singing under the direction of Marilys Daguerre since 1999. |
